Salary & Benefits

Employees of this office are not covered by Social Security, but do have mandatory retirement coverage with Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). This position is located in Sacramento, CA.


Under direction of the CSIS Chief Operations Officer, is responsible for client services to all local education agencies in California to support their use of a statewide information system for student records transfer and automated state reporting.
Lead, direct and supervise CSIS Client Services staff; assist Chief Operations Officer and other program managers in strategic planning and tactical operations.
Devise, implement, and manage a user support system to enable California school districts and county offices of education to effectively and efficiently assign and maintain Statewide Student Identifiers, as well as to complete state reporting and records transfer activities.
Establish standards, implement and maintain CSIS central system to collect, classify, and respond to requests for assistance from local educational agencies.
Set standards for performance of the CSIS Client Services staff;
supervise CSIS Client Services staff in all aspects of administrative duties and responsibilities;
develop collaborative working relationships with other CSIS department managers and staff to ensure effective coordination of resources for the attainment of project objectives;
establish and maintain effective relationships with providers of student information systems (SIS); this includes working with appropriate personnel from both private commercial vendors and value added partners, plus in-house resources of local education agencies acting as SIS providers;
act as liaison to local educational agencies, California Department of Education, and the CSIS Advisory Group, as well as other outside agencies and associations for CSIS Program Client Services activities;
serve as a cooperative and contributing member of the CSIS Program Office management team;
complete other duties as assigned.​


Knowledge of:
Demonstrated knowledge of large relational databases and acceptance testing processes and procedures;
demonstrated knowledge of customer service issues and concepts;
in-depth knowledge of local K-12 operations and considerable experience in working with student information systems, and knowledge and experience with the CSIS Program as implemented at the local education agency level is preferred.
Ability to:
Proven ability to effectively work on concurrent tasks and with multiple entities;
work with formal organizational structures as well as with flexible teams;
demonstrated ability to build and manage constructive relationships with all stakeholders;
perform excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Minimum of seven years in the technical or client services field, with at least three years management experience of a client support function or of student information systems operations.
Experience working with large relational databases designed for both transaction processing and complex reporting.
Experience working in California K-12 operations is preferred.
Requires graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in business, communications, technology, or a related field.
Work experience resulting in an equivalent knowledge base may be substituted for the major requirement.

Each candidate’s application papers will be thoroughly evaluated and ranked by a screening committee appointed by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office. Candidates achieving a rating of 70% or better will qualify to continue in the eligibility screening process with an interview scheduled the week of Month xx, 201x. Interviews will be held at the California School Information Services Office, 770 L St. Suite 1120, Sacramento, CA 95814.

Conditions of Employment

Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and possess a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. This position is overtime exempt and has a probationary period of one year.
